Adam Lambert and Kris Allen: American Idol Top 2 - America Got it Right
In a way, it's kind of funny for us to declare that America got it right by putting Kris into the finals given how often we've counted him out over the last several weeks.
However, a large part of that was our listening to Internet buzz and the very large and vocal fanbases that both Adam Lambert and Danny Gokey have. We really underestimated everyone and thought that they were just starstruck by Danny's likeability factor, not to mention his personal story about losing his wife just a few weeks before the audition process.
There were 88 million votes that came in on Tuesday night for the top 3, and only one million votes separated the top 2. Now that we know the results, it might have been interesting to know just how many votes separated the number 2 person from Danny. Was Danny clearly out of the running or did he just miss his opportunity at the going all the way to the finale?
For us, as long as Adam was in the final 2, we're happy with the results. Adam is really the only one who flat-out deserves to be there. Both Danny and Kris are interesting and have noticable talent, but neither are superstars. As we've said previously, we don't love everything that Adam does, but he is always interesting and he has that powerhouse voice and range that no other contestant this season even came close to.
But as we said, America got it right, which means that, looking honestly at Danny and Kris, we'd have to agree that between them, Kris is the more versatile talent. The way he was able to take a Kanye West song and turn it on its head into something that was "better than the original" speaks volumes about what Kris might be able to accomplish on an album.
Tonight's results were the most shocking of the season, and probably the most shocking top 3 episode since Melinda Doolittle failed to make the final 2 back in Season 6.
Next week, are the finals of Season 8 at last and it would seem that Adam Lambert has a clear shot at the title now that his closest rival has been eliminated.
Hmmm, there we go again underestimating Kris Allen...
